O Night That Is Brighter Than the Day

This ancient Easter text_x0014_ a poetic prefiguration of the Exsultet_x0014_ by Asterius of Pontus (ca. 400) is here set for unaccompanied SATB choir (or antiphonal double choir). For advanced choirs_x0014_ mainly because of its range and occasional divisi_x0014_ this hymn is nevertheless strictly homophonic, triadic (but not traditionally tonal), and in common time. Thus, advanced choirs will find it relatively easy to put together once they become accustomed to the harmonic language.
