Let Us Go to the Altar

This lively, rhythmic gathering song was composed to encourage assembly participation: the tune is mostly stepwise and within the range of a seventh. This melodic simplicity musically illustrates the lyrics, based on Psalms 42 and 150, whose message is that our worship is communal in nature. The modal refrain (E mixolydian), has a simple baritone harmony and descant whereas the verses are set for SATB choir.
