Inspired by one of the first recorded hymns of the early Church_x0014_ known as _x001C_ The Christ Hymn,_x001D_ which is drawn from Paul_x0019_ s letter to the Philippians_x0014_ this contemporary assembly song evokes a prayerful, meditative quality two ways: by using four repeating words, _x001C_ Jesus Christ is Lord,_x001D_ and by remaining on the tonic E in the bass while the chord progression I-bVII-IV-I occurs. It is scored for SATB chorus with descant, keyboard, and guitar.
