Jerusalem the Golden

This short, chanted piece for unaccompanied SSA choir uses Neale_x0019_ s translation of the first verse of Bernard of Cluny_x0019_ s Latin hymn _x001C_ Urbs Sion Aurea._x001D_ Mostly unison throughout, it occasionally breaks into three-part harmony. Though initially written for the feast of the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica in Rome, its focus on Jerusalem as the Holy City_x0014_ and thus, by analogy, on eternal life and the kingdom of God in Heaven_x0014_ it can be used any time during Lent, for funerals, and the feasts of All Saints and All Souls_x0019_ Day.
